NANOFIBER™ works in the area of nano technology, developing products for everyday use.

Although the science and technology behind this is quite new, the application of nanomaterials has been centuries old. Hundreds of years ago, alternate sized gold and silver particles created colors on the stained glass windows of medieval churches . Back then, the artists didn’t know that the process they used to create these beautiful works of art, actually involved nanomaterials. Similarly, pottery from the Middle Ages often retained a distinct gold or copper coloured metallic glitter. This lustrous effect was caused by a metallic film that was applied to the transparent surface for glazing. This actually contained silver and copper nanoparticles dispersed homogeneously in a glassy matrix of ceramic glaze.

The early 2000s saw the beginnings of the use of nanotechnology in commercial products, examples include titanium dioxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles in sunscreens, cosmetics and food products; silver nanoparticles in food packaging, clothing, disinfectants and household appliances; carbon nanotube in stain resistant textiles and cerium oxide as a fuel catalyst.
